Boulder Free Radio lives on!

Categories: Personal | No Comments

Today I was thrilled to stumble across what appears to be a reincarnation of the local pirate radio station which went off the air in 2006.

It was at 93.9 (I believe), and it was playing some very German sounding techno/new wave stuff until it wasn’t anymore…a pirate identification and then just static.

According to the KBFR wiki page:

The original founder of KBFR, Monk, who recently moved out of the state, decided to leave all the equipment accumulated by the KBFR/Boulder Free Radio collective during its operations (2000-2005) to a new generation of underground radio enthusiasts. They can be found on several frequencies including 103.9, 102.7, 95.3 and at least 6 others. They often broadcast from parties, raves and cultural events.

As of 2008 a new group of Boulder pirates has emerged under the call letters KGLR (green light radio). They have taken the reins from Monk and presented a whole new station on 95.3 fm in Boulder, CO.

Pump up the volume…

Buford Pusser - the model for Gene Hunt?

Categories: Personal | No Comments

In any case, Gene would love this guy.

Sheriff Buford Pusser (wikipedia article)

Sheriff: Check.

Cowboy boots: Check.

Guns: Check.

Sexy cars: Check.

Bigger guns and muscle cars: Check.

Tough-guy movie buff: Check.

Starring Joe Don Baker! (Mitchell! The guy who can maneuver a six-pack with his toes, if I recall my MST3K correctly.)

Oh, wait. The Walking Tall movie is about Buford Pusser! And it opened in 1973. Gene would definitely have this poster hanging in his office.

I forgot where I found this little comic, but isn’t it cute?

I’m sorry I disappointed you, Ed.

Even though I still don’t understand exactly how.
I’ll never forget everything you did for me.

(Sorry to everybody else for this sappy post. That kind of day.)

Just a quick update

Three days ago I got to meet Keith Olbermann.
Two days ago Barack Obama accepted his nomination, live in front of me. Behind a scaffolding. But still.
One day ago…I rested from the DNC experience.
Today got jumping stilts in the mail, got a fresh season of LoM (still loving Gene!), and spent an hour and a half playing with six puppies.
Can life get more fabulous than this?
Still, feeling very tired and stressed, so going to nap presently.
Will video tape my first steps on the stilts, but I have to buy wrist guards first. My wrists are screwed up enough without absorbing a fall from great bouncy heights.

Day of Celebration, Day of Hope

It’s been a while since I watched this vid, prayed this little prayer:

Today 80,000 people and I will have the opportunity to see Barack speak live in Denver.

Why the hell did I graduate?? To get a real job and have the life force sucked out of me until I die a miserable shell of myself?

Note to self: don’t forget to look for a real job.

For the edification of the minority of my blog reader(s) who aren’t already living here in Boulder, there’s a fab article in the Boulder Weekly laying out the city’s cultural topography for the froshes. It’s in lexicon format, from Alternative to Zen.

Especially Boulderific entries: Adverse possession, Bruce Benson, 420, Dogs. We do love dogs. They go so well with our love of outdoor sports (see “Xtreme sports”).

Who knew that ostriches lived in caves?

Note the lack of housing for people making under six figures. Note to self: get your head out of the sand and get a real job before you get evicted from this town you love so much and have to go live in Hygiene (with the rest of the ostriches).

Thanks Pamela White for all that you do!

Wonder if he’ll ever know — he’s in the best selling show?

LOM S02 is taking forever to download. Meh.

Jumping stilts!!!!!!!!!

Through the magic of the Internet, the kindness of a stranger, and another factor I can’t really go into here (if I don’t want to be hunted down by hordes of rabid, insane Bill O’Reilly fans), I’ve got a pair of jumping stilts on the way from Amazon!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???

I’m so jealous of myself!

Gene Hunt wikipedia page

I’ve done some editing on the Gene Hunt wikipedia page under the pen name CuteGargoyle.

Specifically, I added a section on Gene’s leadership skills. It’s just a rough draft (obviously), but I didn’t want to put too much time into adding examples and references before I see how the whole idea is going to be received by the other editors.

Catch it quick before some jerk reverts it! (One jerk in particular, actually.)
